The reality of marketing data

Different Platforms Can Tell Different Stories.

📊
GA4 might report one number.
📘
Meta reports another.
📗
Google Ads reports another.
🛒
Your eCommerce platform or CRM, another.

That doesn't automatically mean your tracking is wrong. Different systems use different attribution rules, identity methods, processing logic, and reporting windows.

The important questions are
Was the right customer action captured?
Was the correct information sent?
Did it reach the intended destination?
Is the platform using it as intended?
Can your team explain what the resulting number represents?
That's where DDR starts.
How DDR thinks about measurement

From Customer Action to Marketing Decision

DDR works across the full measurement journey — not simply at the point where a tag is installed.

Step 1
👤

Customer Takes Action

Form submit, purchase, page visit, click

Step 2
🌐

Website Captures Signal

Browser event fires, data layer populated

Step 3
⚙️

Tracking Processes Signal

GTM, server-side, consent layer handles it

Step 4
📡

Platforms Receive It

GA4, Meta, Google Ads, TikTok receive the data

Step 5
📊

Reporting Interprets It

Dashboards, attribution models process results

Step 6
🧠

Team Makes Decision

Budget, creative, channel, strategy choices

DDR works across this entire measurement journey — not simply at the point where a tag is installed. Every step matters because an error at any point can affect every decision that follows.

Signal Check 📡

Start With What
We Can Observe.

Before asking for account access or recommending changes, you can start with a free first look at your website. DDR's Signal Check loads your site using a real browser to observe the tracking technologies and signals that are publicly detectable.

Understanding the signal score

A Useful First Look — Not a Final Verdict.

The instant Signal Score reflects what the scanner can observe from the website at the time of the scan.

Modern tracking isn't always fully visible from the outside. Consent settings, server-side configurations, platform settings, Shopify environments, browser behavior, and other technical factors can affect what an automated scan can see.

So we don't treat an automated score as proof that something is broken. Instead, it helps identify where deeper investigation may be useful.

The DDR approach
"Observe. Verify. Understand. Then recommend."

Factors that can affect what an automated scan reports:

Consent mode configuration and CMP behaviour
Server-side tag delivery (not browser-visible)
Shopify and platform-specific tracking environments
Browser extensions, VPNs, or testing environments
Dynamic page loading and SPA behaviour
Deduplication logic between browser and server
Three levels of review

Go Deeper Only When You Need To.

Different questions require different levels of evidence. DDR's tracking review becomes progressively deeper as more information becomes available.

Level 1

Instant Signal Check

Automated · Real Browser · No Access

Level 3

Platform Verification

Direct Access · Configuration Review · Evidence Confirmed

Some questions cannot be answered reliably from the website alone. When deeper verification is required, DDR reviews the relevant configuration inside the platforms involved.

Platforms reviewed
Google Analytics 4 — events, key events, attribution
Google Tag Manager — tags, triggers, data layer, server
Google Ads — conversions, enhanced conversions
Meta — browser/server event structure, deduplication
TikTok and other relevant platforms
Important Platform Verification is a review — not an implementation engagement. Nothing is changed simply because access is provided.

What happens after a review

Finding Something Doesn't Mean We Automatically Change It.

Once the evidence is clear, DDR can recommend what should stay, what deserves adjustment, and what should be prioritised. And sometimes the right recommendation is to leave something exactly as it is.

Keep

Already appropriate. No changes needed — document and move on.

Improve

Works, but could be strengthened with targeted adjustment.

Fix

Requires correction — something is not behaving as intended.

Build

Missing capability that is genuinely needed for the business.

Monitor

Working now but worth watching as the environment changes.

Some setups may need only a targeted Signal Fix. Others may benefit from a broader tracking implementation. And sometimes the right recommendation is to leave something exactly as it is.

Discuss a Tracking Project
Before we build anything

Tracking requirements shouldn't come from a generic checklist.

They should come from how the business actually works.

Before DDR recommends or implements anything, we need to understand the business behind the tracking — the customer journey, the decisions the data needs to support, and what a meaningful outcome actually looks like.

What does the business sell and how does a customer buy?
What is a qualified lead or a meaningful conversion?
Which advertising platforms are in use?
Which systems contain revenue or lead information?
Which marketing decisions does the team need the data to support?
The result of this understanding

From that information, DDR defines what should be measured, where the signals should go, and how the important customer journeys should be validated.

This is what separates a tracking implementation that serves the business from one that simply fires tags.

Validation

Built Isn't the Same as Verified.

Implementation isn't complete simply because a tag fired once. DDR validates the agreed customer journey — not just the technical setup.

Where practical, we document the evidence so the client can understand what was tested and what passed.

1

Perform the customer action

We complete the real journey — form, purchase, click

2

Observe the event

Confirmed firing in GTM Preview and GA4 DebugView

3

Inspect parameters

Verify correct data is attached to the event

4

Confirm browser and server behaviour

Both layers checked where server-side is implemented

5

Confirm destination

Event verified in each platform: Meta, Google Ads, TikTok

6

Check duplicate control

Deduplication confirmed where browser and server both fire

7

Confirm reporting

Data visible in reporting tools and attribution is correct

Frequently asked questions

Common Questions About Tracking

Different platforms use different attribution models, identity methods, reporting windows, and processing logic. GA4 uses session-based attribution. Meta and Google Ads use their own impression and click-based attribution. These systems will rarely report identical numbers — and that is not automatically a sign that something is broken. The important question is whether each platform has received the right signals and is using them correctly.
Not automatically. Platform differences need context before drawing a conclusion. The right approach is to observe, then verify, then understand. DDR doesn't treat a number mismatch as confirmation that something is wrong — we examine whether the right customer actions were captured, whether the correct information was sent, and whether the platforms are using it as intended.
Level 1 (Instant Signal Check): No. Just your website URL. No login, no account access, no signup.

Level 2 (Expert Review): Typically website and browser review only. Certain customer journeys may require access to pages that require login.

Level 3 (Platform Verification): Yes, relevant platform access is required — but only to review, not to change anything.
No. Verification is assessment. We review what exists and what it shows — we do not make changes simply because access has been provided. Any implementation work is separately agreed and scoped before anything is touched.
No — and that shouldn't be the objective. Different attribution systems will always produce different numbers. The goal is to ensure each platform has received the right signals, that those signals are being used correctly, and that the team understands what each number represents and why it exists.
Not automatically. DDR recommends server-side tracking where the business, platform requirements, and technical environment justify it — typically for businesses running significant ad spend where conversion data quality directly affects campaign performance. Whether it is right for your situation is something we assess based on your setup, not as a default recommendation.
Absolutely. DDR regularly works as the technical tracking specialist behind an existing agency or in-house marketing team. We can work directly with developers, media buyers, and analytics teams — or provide findings that the existing team acts on. The arrangement is flexible depending on what works for your setup.
Yes. Once scope is agreed, DDR can implement and validate the approved changes. The review process is deliberately separate from implementation — so you understand exactly what is recommended and why before any work begins.
Yes. DDR is a tracking-first digital agency, not only a measurement consultancy. Tracking and analytics is the foundation — but we can also support paid media, SEO, websites, content, social, email and broader digital strategy. Explore Digital Marketing →
